The Name of the Game
An emphasis on chiaroscuro and a deliberate attempt not to paint the background but to leave the curtains as the original underpainting. The shawl was originally red but as I had done the dead layer in Prussian Blue, I decided to stick with it. I don't remember her being quite a boney as she appears but I think the ribs give it more of a hungry appeal. The Cadmium orange on the skirt still isn't as bright as I would have liked it. If you look carefully you will notice she has braids in her hair. I added the white highlights after seeming Vermeer's Girl with a Red Hat, it made a big difference, I think.
